F Connectors

What is an F Connector?

The F plug is a type of RF connector commonly used for cable television, satellite television, cable modems and often in TV distribution systems.  It can also be used for terrestrial television connections, although it is more common to use ordinary TV aerial coax connectors.

Normally the F connector is used to terminate RG-6 coaxial cable or (in older installations) with RG-59 cable. The F connector was invented by Eric Winston in the early 1950's while working for Jerrold Electronics on their development of cable television.
