NAS Network Storage Link for USB 2.0 Disk Drives The pint-size Linksys Network Storage Link NSLU2 (affectionately known as the "Slug") is a simple way to share two USB hard disk drives or flash drives on a computer network. It doesn't come with any disks, so you have the choice of connecting any external USB drives to share on the network - you can attach either USB hard disk drives or USB flash drives. To make your files available across the network it's as straightforward as plugging an external USB drive into the NSLU2, powering it up and then browsing your Network Neighborhood for what you have stored on the drive - it's a very convenient way of accessing your portable files from the network. - Rapidly attach USB disk drives and flash disks to your network
- Share digital music, video & documents with controlled access by user name or group
- Integrated Windows network protocol (SMB/CIFS over TCP/IP) file server - even access your files from the Internet
- Easy to use web interface - lets you format, backup, and scandisk
Setting up the Network Storage Link with external USB drives is dead easy. Simply plug the NSLU2 into the Ethernet network, connect the USB drive(s) and power it up. The NSLU2 supports self configuration via DHCP (automatically assigned IP settings) from a network router (e.g. ADSL or cable router) or you can use the supplied utility from your PC to configure the NSLU2 network settings. Once setup is complete you can start storing you digital music, videos and documents to the NSLU2 network appliance. Ease of Use
Managing the NSLU2 is all done through an easy to use web interface. The built in software allows you to format attached hard drives and scan disks for errors. Also included is backup software that can schedule full, incremental, or synchronization backups of network drives to the NSLU2, or vice versa - it's a great way to make sure you have copies of your precious files stored in more than one place. The nifty little NSLU2 can even be configured to send you an email when a drive runs out of space or if it encounters an error on a disk. Modifications & Extra Software Modules For those interested in getting more out of this great little network appliance there is the possibility of installing customized firmware and extra software packages. The internal operating system is based on Linux, making it extremely flexible, and there is an active user community that has developed all kinds of innovative ways of making use of this amazing device.
